Part 2 of a Simmer's Guide to Batuu
/The Sims 4 video game is coming out with Star Wars DLC that is focused on Galaxy’s Edge, the land in Disneyland and Walt Disney World dedicated to Star Wars. The pack is a beautiful representation of Black Spire Outpost, Batuu the village that is in the parks.
Last week, I wrote a blog post called The Simmer’s Guide to Batuu to give Simmers who haven’t been to Galaxy’s Edge some context for the pack. The post was well-received, and I’m continuing the idea today with a post dedicated to the food and beverages of Batuu. Many of which seem to be making an appearance in this DLC!
You can find my original post here: https://www.crazycatnerd.com/blog/a-simmers-guide-to-batuu
My posts are centered around comparing Galaxy’s Edge (aka Batuu or Black Spire Outpost) to what we are seeing from this DLC. If you are interested in the actual mechanics and details of the game itself, you should check out Carl’s Sims Guides: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/gamepacks/starwars/. His site is my personal go-to for learning about the Sims. I also recommend his videos.
Since I began writing this post, the game has been released to EA Game Changers. I am not a Game Changer, so I don’t have as much information as those folks. But I will post follow-ups after I get the pack and can compare the game in more detail to my experience.
Food & Beverages of Batuu
Blue Milk
Blue Milk has been mentioned and shown in the information we’ve received. Galaxy’s Edge has both Blue Milk and Green Milk. Both beverages exist in the movies, not just in the parks. For a number of reasons, Disney opted to go the non-dairy route for these treats, so they are not actually milk. They have an interesting texture and flavor. You can read my review of them in this post: https://www.crazycatnerd.com/blog/galaxys-edge-milk-stand-review. I also explain exactly what flavors they are, if you are curious. These beverages are served from the “Milk Stand”, but a variation can be found at Oga’s Cantina.
Bespin Fizz
In the gameplay trailer, we see a smoking red drink. I believe that is the Bespin Fizz. It shares a name with a planet in the Star Wars universe, but I believe it only appears in Batuu. It’s a fizzy alcoholic cocktail found at Oga’s Cantina. It consists of “rum, yuzu purée, pomegranate juice, white cranberry juice” and it also has “cloud swirls” which are achieved by a combination of dry ice and edible glitter. My friend had one of these during our trip and it was beautiful.
Other Drinks
As of now, I’ve only identified the Blue Milk and Bespin fizz in the promotional material. However, I think it is very likely we will see many more beverages. When I visited Batuu I had the Cliff Dweller served in a Porg mug which was quite yummy. My husband and one of my friends had the “Carbon Freeze” which looked amazing with “popping pearls” (boba) bouncing all about. Another friend had the “Black Spire Brew” which is coffee with honey, passionfruit, citrus and this stuff called “falernum”. I had to look it up. According to Wikipedia: “Falernum (pronounced fə-LUR-nəm) is either a syrup liqueur or a nonalcoholic syrup from the Caribbean. It is best known for its use in tropical drinks. It contains flavors of ginger, lime, and almond, and most often also of cloves or allspice.” The more you know!
Anyway, some other drinks we saw include The Fuzzy Tauntaun (with foam that numbs your lips), The Outer Rim, Jet Juice and Jedi Mind Trick. A lot of the drinks are quite pretty and many of them are a bit different in their flavors or presentation.
Food in Disney
Walt Disney World could just go with the standard amusement park fare of cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, fries, nachos, etc… and they certainly have plenty of those options. But one thing I love about Disney is that even if you go to a counter service restaurant for a fast meal, you can still find interesting options in many locations. Prior to the opening of Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s Hollywood Studios did not have a lot of variety in their counter service options like some of the other parks. These days, there are plenty of delicious options and we see some of those in this Sims 4 DLC!
Where to Eat in Black Spire Outpost
Not much food is served in Oga’s Cantina, but other places that are in Galaxy’s Edge are appearing in this DLC pack. The two main locations to get food are Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Wraps. However, it looks like we may also have Kat Saka’s Kettle as I caught a glimpse of the “Outpost Mix” popcorn in one of the trailers.
Mustafarian Lava Roll
One item I have spotted in the game is the Mustafarian Lava Roll which is a puff pastry with a cinnamon chocolate filling, a raspberry glaze and chocolate cookie crumbs sprinkled on top. Wait a minute, why didn’t I try this? It sounds delicious.
Outpost Mix
As I mentioned, I caught a glimpse of the “Outpost Mix” popcorn. This popcorn is...different. Like the milk, it gets really mixed reviews. The outpost mix has two flavors: one spicy and one fruity, but they are mixed together. I enjoyed trying the popcorn, but the tastes did start to get overwhelming after I had eaten a bunch. The changing flavor depending on which pieces you grabbed was fun, though.
Ronto Wraps
The first item I found in the promotional material for the new DLC pack, the one which made me realize they were going to put all these delicious things in the pack, was the Ronto Wrap. You purchase Ronto Wraps from Ronto Roasters. Ronto’s is in the marketplace area. It has an indoor/outdoor vibe, as it is covered but mostly open to the outside. In the middle of the restaurant is a giant spit for roasting meat. A recycled podracer engine heats the meat and a droid turns the spit. The theme for this place is outstanding. Ronto’s has a limited menu which features the Ronto Wrap. The wrap is a pork sausage, wrapped in a slice of roasted pork, covered in a “tangy” slaw and peppercorn dressing and served in a “pita” that is more like naan in consistency. I was skeptical as it sounded too pork-heavy for me. Well, I loved it. It’s delicious, especially for theme park food. I will definitely be getting a Ronto Wrap again!
Endorian Tip-Yip
Tip-Yips are a bird that is raised for consumption on the moon of Endor and are very similar to chicken. Yes, Endorian Tip-Yip is basically fried chicken served over mashed potatoes and veggies. It’s quite good though.
Other Food Possibilities
I had an amazingly gorgeous and tasty dessert called an Oi-Oi Puff. There are also Smoked Kaadu Ribs, Yobshrimp Noodle Salad, Roasted Endorian Tip-yip Salad, Braised Shaak Roast and a Felucian Garden Spread (vegetarian) and the Batuu-Bon dessert.
I hope you found this post useful for connecting to Black Spire Outpost! I love Galaxy’s Edge and I’m so excited to explore it with my Sims- especially since I don’t know when I will be able to return myself.
If I continue this series, some things we could discuss include:
Crafting a lightsaber
Building a droid
The eyeball in the water fountain
The alien in the tank above the bar
DJ Rexx
The mysterious cube on the table & Kyber Crystals
The shops (like Den of Antiquities)
The rides (and how they may relate to the game)
What movies/shows should you watch to understand GE
The datapad game (you can play a game on your phone in the park)
The relationship between Star Wars & Disney (& EA even)
Backstory of Batuu
More of my personal experience in GE
I will happily continue posting comparisons between the Black Spire Outpost that exists in the parks (I almost said “in real life” but that doesn’t seem entirely appropriate) and the one that now exists in The Sims 4 if people are interested so please let me know in the comments or on Twitter. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this post. Hope you return soon!
A list of things I anticipate seeing in the Sims 4 Journey to Batuu DLC, when I finally get to play it, based on my experiences in Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World.
