Sims 4: Journey to Batuu DLC vs. My Experience in Galaxy's Edge

Sims 4 Batuu vs. DIsney World: What I expect to find in the Sims 4 DLC based on my experiences in Disney World.

For why this post was so delayed, check out my most recent post: https://www.crazycatnerd.com/blog/tidesofmydepression

Thank you to those of you who voted in my Twitter poll for the topic of the next post! Part 3 of the Simmer’s Guide to Batuu won the vote. I will definitely be working on that post soon. However, I felt it was important to write this post before I actually played the new DLC. Since there was some interest in this topic too, I decided to write this post first and work on Part 3 once I start playing the game.

The Sims 4 video game just released a DLC called The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu. Batuu is the name of the planet you visit when you go to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland or Walt Disney World. I’m a casual fan of the Star Wars Franchise, but I am a huge Disney World fan. As such, this pack was very appealing to me. When I vacation, I go to Batuu and now my Sims can vacation there too!

I wrote two posts pre-release discussing some of the similarities of the two places for Simmers who haven’t been to Galaxy’s Edge.

Part 2: https://www.crazycatnerd.com/blog/part-2-of-a-simmers-guide-to-batuu

Galaxy’s Edge opened last year (2019) in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. In January of 2020, I visited GE with my husband and three friends (all 30-somethings, for reference). In this post, I want to make a list of my experiences in that area of the park. I’m intentionally making this list before I play the new Sims 4 DLC. I want to make the trip fresh in my mind, as best I can so that when I finally start playing I can compare the experiences.

A section of the Rise of the Resistance attraction in Walt Disney World.

Basically, this list is what I expect based on my trip to Galaxy’s Edge and how the Sims 4 DLC is being presented.

  1. Crew the Millenium Falcon on a smuggling mission for Hondo:

One of the rides in Galaxy’s Edge, called Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, allows guests to crew the Millenium Falcon, Han Solo’s infamous ship, on a smuggling mission for Hondo Ohnaka to steal First Order Cargo from some TIE Fighters. The ride is interactive and results vary with how well your team does. I really enjoyed this ride. Bonus Points: if I get to fulfil different crew roles (pilot, engineer, gunner).

  2. Join the Resistance, get captured by the First Order and escape:

In the other ride, guests join the Resistance and are given a mission to rendezvous with General Leia at an undisclosed location. On the way there, the guests are captured by the First Order and brought on to a First Order Destroyer where they are thrown into a cell and interrogated by Kylo Ren. The guests make a great escape. This attraction is pretty epic and involves multiple kinds of rides and technology. Bonus Points: if Finn helps with the escape.

  3. Have a drink at Oga’s Cantina:

My friends and I had drinks at the crowded cantina known as Oga’s where there was a droid DJ. They served a variety of unusual cocktails and some light snacks. Bonus points if I can get the Cliffdweller in a Porg mug with a souvenir coaster.

  4. Eat a Ronto Wrap:

We all loved Ronto’s. It had great food and atmosphere. I can’t wait to eat there again. In the meantime, I hope my Sim can enjoy a Ronto wrap in an outdoor seating area. Bonus points if my Sim can also get the Galma Sampler and if the meat is being roasted by a droid using a repurposed podracer engine.

  5. Eat Endorian Tip-yip:

Docking Bay 7 is a restaurant in a hangar bay for galactic travellers. They have many interesting things on their menu, but I had the Endorian Tip-yip and it was good. I would definitely eat there again. Bonus points if they mention chef “cookie” or if I can eat an Oi-oi puff.

  6. Shop in the market place:

Galaxy’s Edge has a neat indoor/outdoor marketplace that has several small vendors. I had fun wandering the marketplace. Bonus points if I can “adopt” a “critter” (aka buy a cute plushie).

  7. Try the Outpost Mix popcorn:

In the marketplace, I purchased “Outpost Mix” from a merchant stall called Kat Saka’s Kettle that is a combination of sweet and spicy popcorn. Bonus points if Sims react differently to this food with some hating it and others loving it.

  8. Build a Droid:

At the Droid Depot, I selected my droid parts from a conveyor belt and then went over to an assembly station to assemble my droid and activate it. My droid reacts to the world in Galaxy’s Edge, but at home, I just control him with a datapad. I made the BB version (the two stacked spheres). Bonus points if the droid has dance routines it can do.

  9. Craft a Lightsaber:

When I went to Galaxy’s Edge, I went to Savi’s Workshop where I participated in a ritual to craft my own lightsaber choosing all the parts. There were four different styles of parts and a few different colors of Kyber crystals. The ritual was like a small interactive show that was very impressive. Bonus points if I get to craft one from ancient pieces in the style of “Power & Defense” and choose a purple Kyber crystal.

  10. Drink Blue Milk:

I’ve already talked about the Blue Milk of Galaxy’s Edge a couple of times. I quite liked the Blue Milk and look forward to having it again. Bonus points if I can also get Green Milk.

  11. Be Awed by the Details:

The thing I love most about Walt Disney World is the details. I’m in awe of all the little things that make the environment fit the theme of each land. Bonus points if I can find three unexpected details that match Galaxy’s Edge.

  12. See Rey, Chewie and Vi:

While I was in Galaxy’s Edge, I saw the characters wandering around doing their everyday tasks. In GE, they don’t really interact with fans as much but act as part of the world. Bonus points if a Storm Trooper tells me to “move along”.

  13. Shop at the Den of Antiquities:

I expect to go shopping at Dok-Ondor’s Den of Antiquities like I did when I visited Galaxy’s Edge. Bonus points if I can purchase a holocron. Perhaps we should discuss holocrons and kyber crystals in our next Simmer’s guide to Batuu post?

  14. Talk with residents:

Because Disney is trying to make Galaxy’s Edge immersive and like a living world, each of the residents of Batuu (so Disney employees aka cast members) has unique backstories and information to share about their life on Batuu. Chatting with them is part of the experience, so I expect to get to know some interesting residents in the Sims 4 version.

And there you have it! These are 14 things that I expect to see when I (finally) play the new Sims 4 DLC, Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu. I intend to post an update to see how well the DLC scores against my list, so check back.

A huge thank you to those of you who have read, commented on and supported my Batuu posts. I really appreciate it. I plan to do the next installment of Guide to Batuu soon, so be sure to let me know any questions you have!
