Thanks to Onyeka001, we are adding a new item to our Jungle Adventure checklist: making sure we learn the new dances! At the end of this post, we will go over the checklist again.
On a rainy spring day, David arrived in Selvadorada for the first of his expeditions. He rented the cheapest place he could find for three days. He was excited for his new adventure and he knew that with enough effort, he could make a career out of his explorations.
His first stop was the village center. A statue of Madre Cosecha kept watch over the collection of market stalls, the local bar and a few houses that surrounded the center. David decided his first day would be spent with the locals- learning any tips they had about surviving in the jungle, listening to their stories, and trying the local cuisine.
He did a bit of shopping early in the day. He picked up a bit of portable foodstuffs (it looked like a grilled cheese pod?), spider repellent, and a flower that promised to distract bees. The vendors were friendly and chatty. One particular vendor took an immediate liking to David and was obviously flirting with him.
David enjoyed his conversation with the very attractive young lady, but he was annoyed by the rain. The area was very open and everything was getting wet. He wasn’t feeling particularly comfortable, but the locals didn’t seem to be bothered by the rain. He hoped he would get used to it the more time he spent in the jungle.
He had some lunch from a food stall in the marketplace. The food was good, but not what he was used to. He only managed to eat half of his meal. In the afternoon, he chatted with locals at the bar. While he was speaking to a local named Carolina and the bartender about the area’s history, out of the corner of his eye he spotted a figure dancing.
The beautiful creature caught his eye because their dancing style did not match the others in the bar. They moved slower, but it still somehow matched to the music. They were graceful but with natural and earthy movements, not an air of sophistication. David immediately felt something inside of him tug him toward this stranger. When he was finally able to stop watching them dance, he had the presence of mind to approach them and engage them in conversation.
David gave a sauve smile, “you are mesmerizing when you dance. May I ask your name?” In a voice a bit lower than David was anticipating, “Paka’a.” “My name is David. I’m here for my first expedition into the jungle. I live in San Myshuno. Where are you from?” Paka’a smiled, “I’m a child of the ocean.”
David and Paka’a chatted for the remainder of the evening. David was tempted to stay all night at the bar with Paka’a, or invite Paka’a back to the place he was staying. Instead, he left at a reasonable hour. He wanted to call his grandfather before heading to bed and he wanted to make sure he was refreshed for his first foray into the jungle.
